A Popular Sign of Community Support
The new Vancouver Public Library card is a tangible sign of Concord Pacific's commitment to the
Vancouver community. It's also a real winner with the city's growing number of library users.
"In the six weeks between mid-August and the end of September, we issued over 11,000 of the
new cards," says Vancouver Public Library Director Madge Aalto. "People are delighted with the
new design -- especially children. They're pleased to have a card of their own that's 'just like the
grown-ups'... instead of the previous cardboard one."
Madge Aalto notes that the library's community partnership with Concord Pacific has attracted
interest from librarians across Canada and internationally. "Financial support by Concord Pacific
has enabled us to provide a more attractive and durable card, at no cost to the public or to the
library's operating budget," she says.

Easing the Wait at St. Paul's Hospital
As Vancouver's "downtown neighbourhood hospital," St. Paul's has a strong place in the hearts of
Concord Pacific Place residents. That's why Concord Pacific was pleased to pledge $25,000 to
improve the waiting room for the hospital's 15-bed Critical Care Unit. The outmoded area will be
upgraded with comfortable reclining chairs, a phone system, plants, pictures and a television set.
"The generous support of corporations like Concord Pacific is instrumental in making
improvements like these happen," says Dr. Peter Dodek, Director of ICU for St. Paul's. He notes
that families of many Critical Care patients stay by their loved ones' sides until an improvement
takes place... which can mean long hours in the waiting room. "The new chairs will allow them to
get a proper rest while they wait," says Dr. Dodek. "And the atmosphere will be much more
positive and hopeful."
Registered Nurse Joanne Dechant and Concord Pacific Senior Vice President Jon Markoulis in the
existing Critical Care waiting room, which will receive a much-needed facelift.

A Christmas Gift for the United Way
A gift of hope: Bob Kadlec, Campaign Vice Chair of the United Way, receives a cheque from
Debbie Kinnaird, representative for the employees of Concord Pacific.
The annual Concord Pacific holiday season Open House was a time for community giving as well
as celebration. The event, held at the soon-to-open Roundhouse Community Centre, saw the
presentation to the United Way Campaign of $3,933... representing the combined contribution of
employees from the Concord Pacific Group of companies. Adding to the employee contribution
was a corporate donation of more than $35,000 by Concord Pacific Group Inc.
The dedicated support of Concord Pacific and its employees was praised by Bob Kadlec,
Campaign Vice Chair for the United Way of the Lower Mainland, who stated: "We salute Concord
Pacific for demonstrating exceptional leadership and commitment to making the community we
live in a better place for everyone."
